Horror in northwestern Serbia: Baby falls down stairs and dies, mother immediately arrested

A tragedy occurred in the settlement of Larcak in northwestern Serbia when a 15-month old baby died after falling down the stairs in her family home.

The police have arrested the mother, 20-year-old M.S., who is suspected of involvement in this tragic event, it has been confirmed for Telegraf.rs.

The accident happened on August 29, and the child was first admitted to the hospital in Sremska Mitrovica. After that, the baby was transferred to the Children's Hospital in Novi Sad, where, despite the best efforts of the doctors, she died on September 11.

According to unofficial information, the mother stated that she was at work when the accident occurred. However, family members have provided conflicting accounts of who was with the child at that time.

The police are now investigating earlier injuries, as the child already had a broken arm and head injuries. This has raised further suspicions of possible neglect and domestic violence.

The baby had previously been hospitalized for injuries, further fueling suspicions of neglect. Due to these circumstances, the case was reported to the Center for Social Welfare. The investigation aims to determine whether this was an accident or perhaps a case of domestic violence.

Arrest

The mother, M.S. (20) has been detained for up to 48 hours on suspicion that she committed criminal acts of domestic violence and a serious crime against general safety. She has denied any responsibility, but an investigation is ongoing.

The court in Sremska Mitrovica plans to interview witnesses, after which it will be decided whether the woman will be kept in detention.
