Brnabic talks about attack in front of Serbian Assembly: What "blockading elites" have called for has happened

Serbian Assembly President Ana Brnabic said last evening that "what the blockading elites have called for" happened earlier in the day - referring to a shooting of an opponent of anti-government protests and blockades that happened in front of the Assembly.

Brnabic also once again called on everyone to show tolerance, responsibility and calm the situation.

Brnabic said that, from the human perspective, she was completely shocked by the fact that "some blockader picked up a gun and decided to shoot ordinary people in Pionirski Park" - but from the political side of things she was neither shocked or surprised, "because that was expected".

"After 11 months of work to literally somehow change the state of mind of some people, to instill hatred, to call for violence, for terror, to divide people into the elites and the 'caciji' (students against blockades and their supporters). And that the latter should not have anything and have no human rights and should be dealt with through showdowns. The political elites of the blockades called for chasing, shooting, cooking, hanging, beheading," Brnabic told reporters in Brussels.

She added that fortunately nobody died yesterday and called for understanding that words have consequences, and for responsibility and calming the situation.

"Especially since we already have serious incidents before November 1. We had the lies about a student from the Faculty of Agriculture being beaten, harassed, terrorized, proven lies. Now there is this terrorist act perpetrated by a blockader who took a gun and went out to kill an ordinary person, because he (the shooter) did not like where that person was, what he was saying, what he is looking for and what the way he is thinking. What will we witness next? I am asking for restraint, Serbia needs peace," Brnabic said.
