Activities to restart operations at Pancevo Refinery have begun: NIS announces plans for February

Activities have begun at the Pancevo Refinery to restart commercial operation of the production facilities, while the delivery of oil derivatives from the refinery to the market is expected on January 27, NIS (Petroleum Industry of Serbia) announced today, and stated that the plan is for the refinery to operate throughout February.

Taking into account the quantities of crude oil that have been imported, as well as those from the domestic oil fields, the plan is for the refinery to work throughout February, while further operations will be coordinated with the decisions that would enable the company's operational activities.

The starting activities are taking place according to the established schedule, in line with the company's internal procedures and in compliance with the highest environmental standards and occupational health and safety rules, NIS, which is under US sanctions, has announced.

By resuming production at the Pancevo Refinery, the energy stability of the Republic of Serbia will be further improved and a stable supply of petroleum products to the domestic market will be maintained.

The previous period during which production in the refinery was suspended was used to carry out overhauling, the most significant of which was the replacement of the catalyst on the DHT reactor and the overhaul of the S-4700 plant, the statement said.

The Pancevo Refinery is also crucial for the operation of HIP-Petrohemija, whose restart depends on the availability of raw materials for processing, as well as long-term decisions related to enabling NIS to operate.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Treasury Department issued a special license on December 31, 2025, which again enabled the company to perform operational activities through January 23, NIS recalled.
