Serbian Army peacekeeper killed in Lebanon
Staff Sergeant Milovan Jovanovic, a member of the Serbian Army who was deployed in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, died this morning as a result of the injuries caused by a missile that hut the UN base where the peacekeeping forces, including a part of the Serbian contingent, are stationed.
Staff Sergeant Jovanovic was provide with emergency medical treatment at the hospital inside the base, and was then transported by helicopter to the University Medical Center in Beirut, where he died around 04:00 local time.
Two more members of the international forces were injured in the attack - a member of the army of El Salvador, and a soldier from Spain.
Staff Sergeant Milovan Jovanovic was born on June 6, 1989 in Kraljevo, central Serbia. He is survived by his wife and two minor children.
Jovanovic served in the Serbian Army since December 10, 2011, and in the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon - since January of this year.
Minister of Defense Bratislav Gasic and Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Army General Milan Mojsilovic offered their condolence to the family of the tragically killed peacekeeper from the ranks of the Serbian Army.
