SNS leader Milos Vucevic rejects theory about wind farm in Deliblato Sands

Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) leader Milos Vucevic said on Sunday that a wind park will not be built in Deliblato Sands (Deliblatska Pescara), where firefighters, police officers, soldiers, and volunteers are currently fighting a large wildfire, stressing that the most important thing now is to save lives and preserve nature.

Speaking at a gathering in Sremski Karlovci, Vucevic said that hundreds of people are fighting the fire in Deliblato Sands and that wildfires are also happening elsewhere in Europe, including France, Spain, Italy, and Greece.

He rejected claims that the fire was deliberately started in order to clear the path for a future wind farm in the area.

"I'm telling you now, neither yesterday, nor today, nor tomorrow, will there be a wind farm there. The most important thing is to save lives, the most important thing is to save all the nature we can," said Vucevic.

Vucevic criticized the opposition for leveling accusations against Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and the Government of Serbia in connection with the wildfire, stating that representatives of the opposition were previously against allocating funds from the state budget to buy new equipment for firefighters.

He explained this included helicopters, fire trucks and other necessary equipment.

Vucevic assessed that the claims about the alleged construction of a wind farm are disturbing the public at the moment when the wildfire is being fought and reiterated that the priority is the protection of people and natural resources.

The leader of the ruling party added that such claims present the government as not caring for human lives or nature and treating economic interest as the only important thing, which he dismissed as untrue.
