Despite rain and helicopters, wildfire on Mt. Stolovi has not been put out yet! Here is what worries rescuers

The head of the Firefighting and Rescue Units, Nedeljko Gagic, said today that the fire on Mt. Stolovi, on Ciker peak, has not yet been localized, but that the situation is significantly better than in previous days.

Gagic said that during the night firefighters, public forestry company Srbijasume workers, and members of other services worked on all fire lines and extinguished local hotspots.

"During the night, work was done on all fire lines, and local hotspots were also extinguished. Today, work will be intensified to create fire prevention lines and maintain the established lined," he told RTS.

Yesterday, 55 firefighters from Kraljevo, Novi Pazar, Cacak, Uzice, and Prijepolje were deployed in putting out this wildfire.

"Members of volunteer firefighting units from Kraljevo, Srbijasume workers, as well as two members from the Otis organization participation," said Gagic.

He added that the fire was closed in on three sides, while the fourth side, in the direction to Kraljevo, was not localized due to the extremely steep and inaccessible terrain.

Srbijasume machines were used on that side of the wildfire yesterday to build barriers.

Gagic pointed out that the helicopter unit of the Ministry of the Interior (MUP) was also deployed.

He stated that it rained for about 15 minutes around 18:00 hours on Tuesday, and that although weak, this rain contributed to reducing heat and the rate of combustion.

According to Gagic, a wildfire broke out on the Ljukten peak on Mt. Goc yesterday.

Members of the fire-rescue units from Kraljevo, Krusevac, Aleksandrovac and Vrnjaska Banja, as well as nearly 150 members from the Nis and Kraljevo Gendarmerie detachments and Srbijasume workers were deployed there.

MUP's Kamov K-32 and Super Puma helicopters also participated.
