Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said today that the state will protect Deliblato Sands as a natural asset and that there is no chance of any construction in that area.

She told TV K1 that there is no way for a construction permit to be issued in Deliblato Sands, as well as that the nearest wind park is more than five kilometers away from the wider borders of the protected area.

The minister rejected allegations being made on social networks about the supposed plans to build a wind farm in the area of Deliblato Sands after the wildfire there has been put out, stating that these are lies and fear being spread by political opponents of the ruling party.

"Citizens are aware of the efforts being made by our firefighters, the MUP, the Army, and volunteers. My colleague from the ministry has spent two weeks in Deliblato Sands. So, people have made their contribution to make sure there is no damage to homes, that we don't lose lives, that we don't lose property. No one was in danger to that extent, except, of course, the nature. And then someone uses such a situation to post a picture of a (wind) park on social media, a picture of an investor and a picture of an official and say, 'here, the fire was started in order to build a wind park'. As much as you want to come to power and win the elections, don't fight that way. Don't lie to your own people and scare your own people," said Djedovic Handanovic.

The minister stressed that the area that burned down in the fire in Deliblato Sands has not freed up space for construction.

"There are procedures, there are regulations, there are laws. It's a protected asset, there cannot be construction there, there is no way to issue a permit. The distance between the nearest wind park is more than five kilometers from the protected area, that is, from the wider borders of the protected area. Those wind farms are largely financed by international financial institutions that have strict requirements for environmental protection, protection of people, and protection of property. You have to do 20, 25 studies in order to satisfy all the regulations, not only domestic, but also international," said the minister.
