Tomorrow will mark one month since the Belgrade Arena became a Covid hospital once again.

Medical coordinator of the temporary hospital in the Belgrade Arena Predrag Bogdanovic told RTS that a total of 1,023 patients had passed through there in the last 29 days, and that no one expected such a situation.

Bogdanovic said that last night was sleepless because there were 80 admissions to the hospital. There are currently 485 patients in the Arena. He says that whole families with bilateral pneumonia are treated in it, and that the epidemiological situation is very serious.

In these nearly a month, a total of 540 patients have been discharged, 438 for further home treatment, while 102 patients were transferred to higher-ranking hospitals.

Most patients receive oxygen therapy, and there are only about 20 empty beds left. Bogdanovic points out that 30 to 50 discharges happen each day, and that they are trying to send every patient home once they stabilize, because there is a lot of pressure on hospitals.

There are 280 oxygen places in the Arena and they are all filled. Bogdanovic points out that there are entire families in the Arena who suffer from bilateral pneumonia.

He adds that the condition of many patients worsens within an hour, while available beds in other higher-ranking hospitals are getting fewer and fewer.

The youngest patient in the Arena is 19, the oldest 88, while Bogdanovic is warning that the situation is very serious.

He called on citizens to reduce contact, and respect all anti-Covid measures.
