The first contingent of vaccines against coronavirus, acquired through the international program Covax, will arrive in Serbia this evening.

The plane with vaccines manufactured by AstraZeneca should land at the Nikola Tesla airport at around 8 pm, and will be greeted by Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic.

The head of the political sector of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Dirk Lorenz, will also be at the airport, as will the deputy director of the World Health Organization in Serbia, Abebayehu Assefa Mengistu, and the director of UNICEF in Serbia, Deyana Kostadinova.

In the first half of 2021, Serbia should receive 345,600 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from the Covax mechanism, the Gavi Vaccine Alliance announced at the beginning of February, in its first forecast.

The Covax system was established so that vaccines would be equally available to all countries, especially poor ones, while the World Health Organization plans to vaccinate 20% of the world's population using that program by the end of 2021.
