The Supreme Court of so-called Kosovo rejected as unfounded the appeal of the defense attorney of the accused G.K., lodged against the verdict of the Basic Court in Djakovica and of the Appellate Court of so-called Kosovo.

The Basic Court in Djakovica declared the accused G.K. guilty of "aggravated murder" and the criminal offense of "unauthorized possession, control or keeping of a weapon" and sentenced him to life in prison, which was confirmed by the Appellate Court of so-called Kosovo.

The Supreme Court of so-called Kosovo stated that at the session held on October 19 last year, the appeal was rejected as unfounded in a majority vote.

The verdict specifies that in his statement given to the police, the accused did not deny the commission of the crime, on the contrary, he described in detail how he killed B.K., then burned the corpse and threw it away to conceal the murder.

The witnesses, members of the G.K.'s family, also confirmed that he was the person who killed B.K., which is why the first-instance court correctly determined that G.K had committed premeditated murder.

The Supreme Court of so-called Kosovo confirmed that the criminal offense was committed under "especially aggravating circumstances" and considers the imposed sentence of life imprisonment to based on the law.

"When making the decision, the Supreme Court took into account the danger of the committed criminal act and the degree of criminal responsibility of the convicted person, the function of general and individual prevention", a statement added.

This is the first life sentence imposed by a court in Kosovo and Metohija.
