A 20-year-old woman from Great Britain died in Belgrade today after the plane she was taking to return home after her stomach surgery in Turkey had to make an emergency landing at the Belgrade Nikola Tesla International, because she fell ill.

The airline confirmed for the Aero.rs portal that the plane, which was flying from Istanbul to London, had to make an unscheduled stop in Belgrade because a passenger was in need of emergency medical care.

"The health and safety of our passengers is a priority, and the passenger left the plane to receive emergency medical assistance. We are incredibly saddened to hear that the passenger passed away after receiving treatment and our thoughts are with the family at this time," Wizz Air said.
