President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said in Brussels on Thursday, regarding his message congratulating Russian President Vladimir Putin on his victory in the elections, that he will congratulate whomever he pleases, because he is no one's servant, and that he is doing everything in the best interest of Serbia.

Replying to a journalist's comment that many people criticized him for congratulating the Russian president on his election victory, Vucic said that he is the president of the Republic and that behaves in accordance with the norms of international public law, respecting other countries.

"I will congratulate whomever I please in the best interest of the Republic of Serbia and will always be protecting Serbia's interests. And that is my job and I will continue to do it, I am not anyone's servant, I love my country more than anything in the world and I act as an independent president of an independent country that makes decisions in its own and in the best interest of its citizens," Vucic concluded.
