Serbia has started discussions With Alibaba, headquartered in China's Hangzhou, about the possibility of building a logistics center in the town of Nis, Mayor Dragoslav Pavlovic has told Politika.

Serbia is participating in the 4th China-Eastern Europe fair, at the China International Consumer Goods Fair in Ningbo, where Pavlovic recalled that Nis and Hangzhou previously signed a memorandum of understanding.

"Soon, I hope, a twinning agreement will be signed, and some Chinese companies are already working in our city. Such agreements are extremely useful, especially in situations like Covid, when Hangzhou helped Nis by donating 30,000 masks," said Pavlovic.

However, in order for Alibaba's logistics hub to launched in the southern Serbian town, a railway bypass must be completed, as well as the second segment of the Konstantin Veliki Airport, i.e. the extension of the runway, the mayor said.

"When that is done, Nis will position itself as a good place in the Balkans for a potential logistics center and then large Chinese companies would come to us and build their bases. I think that cooperation with Alibaba is possible, we will do our best to make it happen," concluded Pavlovic.
