Former basketballer Vladimir Stimac arrested: Videos surface on social media
Former basketball player Vladimir Stimac was arrested late last night, by order of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade.
According to the media, the arrest was carried out by members of the Criminal Investigations Police Directorate (UKP). Novosti is reporting that Stimac was detained on suspicion of "calling for violent overthrowing of the constitutional order."
According to reports, Stimac was detained for "inciting violent behavior at a sporting event or public gathering."
Previously during the day, videos appeared on social networks showing Stimac urging "the whole of Serbia to come in front of the (National) Assembly."
Novosti writes that Stimac made a large number of posts on social networks, including selfies - video clips that contained cursing and urging citizens to come to the Serbian National Assembly "to deal with the people from 'Caciland' (opponents of anti-government protests and blockades who are camped in Pionirski Park)".
In one post, Stimac asked a uniformed policeman to "put down his gun" at the same time insulting the officers.
There were incidents and unrest on Sunday evening near the Serbian National Assembly, during which one member of the MUP (Interior Ministry) was injured.
Also, several people were injured in Pionirski Park during the attempt of (anti-government) protestors to break in there.
