Vucic: Elections to be held in Serbia either in May or December next year, but December is more realistic
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic has stated that elections will be held in May or December 2026, but that late November or December are more realistic.
When asked whether those would be both presidential and parliamentary elections, Vucic told TV Pink that the competent institution will decide about that in time.
Speaking about local elections held last Sumday in Mionica, Negotin and Secanj, Vucic stated that he sees many bad things in every victory and that he is always ready to correct his mistakes.
"In Negotin, it's an incredible result, which I don't believe will ever happen again, for someone to get so many votes. We also found things there we are not satisfied with. Including Jarkovac, when the results come, we will have over 60 percent in Secanj. There are also other parties like the SPS, 4.5 percent, as well as the Radicals and others. The vast majority was, certainly, on that side and again we found fault with ourselves," said Vucic and added that he noticed several organizational shortcomings in Mionica, but that he is considering how to correct it.
He stressed that he is also thinking about how to rejuvenate the party.
Vucic added that he is always happy when he hears the comments of his political opponents after the elections, especially that they are very satisfied, that they are very happy and that they are close to victory.
"As long as they are satisfied when they lose, I am happy," said Vucic and added that elections are a great opportunity for everyone to show their program and plan and that for this reason he respect the competition.
"I believe it is important that we show that respect," the president pointed out.
Asked to comment on the speculation that he is afraid of elections, Vucic said that if that is called fear, he has no problem with it.
"I was also afraid in 2004, when I lost by 0.3 percent to Bogdanovic, and in 2008, when we did not lose, and some others formed the government, and in 2012, when we won and, it seems to me, in various elections 15, 16 times since 2012. Some were municipal, some parliamentary, twice presidential. Every time I had that dose of fear and trepidation, and without that you can't win," he added.
He stressed that the SNS has staff meetings every day in the late afternoon.
"Everything is managed by Milos (Vucevic), but they leave the analysis of the elections and the preparation for the elections to me. All party matters are managed by Milos, Ana (Brnabic) and so on. What I do is analysis of policies, analysis of elections and preparation for elections," Vucic said.
