MOMENT OF ATTACK CAPTURED ON CAMERA: Man wearing hoodie breaks into Gelato Bar in Belgrade and sets in on fire

In the early hours of the morning on Sunday, a fire broke out in the Gelato Bar establishment in New Belgrade, which, according to the latest information from the investigation, was a case of arson.

Footage taken from surveillance cameras shows a man wearing a hoodie carrying a bucket of what turned out to be flammable liquid, breaking the glass on the back door, entering the bar, dousing it with gasoline and setting it on fire, after which he fled the scene.

Firefighters' swift reaction

At 03:49 firefighting and rescue units received a report that thick smoke wasbillowing from the premises located in Jurija Gagarina Street. Three minutes later, at 03:52, two fire engines arrived at the scene along with eight firefighters from the New Belgrade unit.

Upon arrival, it was determined that the fire had engulfed the interior, an area of about 70 square meters. Thanks to the swift reaction of the firemen and the police, the blaze was quickly localized, which prevented a disaster of a larger scale, given that there was immediate danger of it spreading to neighboring buildings.

Police looking for perpetrator

The footage obtained by investigators clearly shows the moment of the break-in and the fire being deliberately started. The police are working to identify and find the person who caused the incident.

The intervention to extinguish the fire and secure the scene was completed at 05:33 on Sunday morning. Thee building sustained heavy physical damage, but fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.

The investigation is ongoing, and the police are appealing on citizens who have any information about the perpetraitor to come forward.

The Third Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade has been informed about the case.

Initial media reports said that Gelato Bar as set on fire with a Molotov cocktail, but the video shows exactly how the incident unfolded.
