"Serbia is not a thieving country, everything will be done by Jan. 15": Vucic speaks openly about NIS
President Aleksandar Vucic spoke on Tuesday after attending a ceremony for the best graduates of medical high schools and universities in Serbia, that was held in the Palace of Serbia in New Belgrade.
Responding to journalists, Vucic touched on relations with Russia regarding NIS (Petroleum Industry of Serbia), and when the solution will be known for that company that is under US sanctions.
"As for my incompetence and lack of courage and strength to steal something from the Russians, well I take pride in that. I don't have the strength to steal and grab. We will wait until the last possible moment and then we would not steal or grab, but pay," said Vucic.
He pointed out that Serbia now fights for its citizens, but also respects foreign investors and will not steal their property and capital.
"We are waiting for the Russians to finish their work, I hope they will get it done by January 15, I hope there is a possibility to get an operating license (for NIS). If not, then we will look at how and in what way, without grabbing property and without theft, to pay as much as something is really is worth and more, so that we can function as a state," said Vucic.
He added that he wants everyone to know that Serbia is not a thieving country, but that it must protect its interests.
"If Serbia must protect its interests, it will do so in a fair and just way," concluded Vucic.
