BLACK TOLL IN SERBIA: 13 dead in 10 days, as many as 29 drunk truck drivers excluded from traffic!

Over the last ten days, as many as 823 traffic accidents have taken place on the roads in Serbia.

The toll is tragic: 13 people lost their lives, while 350 people were injured, the Ministry of Interior (MUP) has announced.

International campaign uncovers thousands of violations

This data was released immediately after the end of a large international campaign aimed at enhanced traffic control, which was carried out from February 9 to 15 in 34 European countries that are members of the ROADPOL organization. The campaign focused on bus and truck drivers, and the results in Serbia show a high degree of violations committed by professional drivers.

Members of the Serbian traffic police discovered a total of 8,499 violations carried out by this category of drivers.

Drunks behind the wheel of giant vehicles

Information about truck drivers has attracted the most attention from the public. Out of a total of 7,952 violations committed by truckers, the following data stands out:

2,226 instances of exceeding allowed driving time, and having faulty tachographs.

590 instances of speeding.

As many as 29 truck drivers were excluded from traffic for driving under the influence of alcohol!

Failures around transport of passengers

Bus drivers were not spared the control either. 547 violations were detected among them, almost half of which (234) refer to not complying with rest rules and exceeding driving time, while 11 drivers did not have the necessary documentation.

Traffic police make appeal

The Traffic Police Administration is is reminding citizens that safety comes first and is appealling on all participants in traffic to strictly follow the regulations in order to reduce the number of tragedies on our roads.

"We wish you a pleasant day and to be safe in traffic!", the police stated.
