Rioting after Red Star game played in France, police throw tear gas at fans, chaos ensues
Red Star (Crvena Zvezda) defeated Lille 1-0 in an away game played last night in France - the first leg of the Europa League playoffs.
Red Star thus have advantage ahead of the game in Belgrade, and the club will also square off with cross-town rivals Partizan in the upcoming Serbian SuperLiga derby.
The Red Star footballers played a great match in France and could have won even more convincingly, but everyone at the club is satisfied with the outcome and hope that the victory and progress to the next round of the competition will be confirmed in Belgrade.
On the other hand, Lille fans were furious, their club has been playing badly since the beginning of the year, and the defeat against Red Star was just the last straw. After the game, the Lille fans shouted insults at their coach, demanded resignations and booed at their players.
However, there was trouble as Red Star fans ("Delije") were leaving the stadium. They were kept there for a while, and when they were allowed to exit the stands and leave the venue, there was confrontation with the police.
The police threw tear gas to calm the situation, and you can see below what that looked like.
