Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Marko Djuric spoke today with European Commission Director-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations Gert Jan Koopman, and said that it is important that the EU enlargement policy remains among the priorities of EU institutions and member states, as well as that Serbia remains firmly committed to reforms and the EU path.

Djuric pointed out that membership in the European Union is Serbia's strategic commitment and that our country continues to implement reforms in all areas important for the accession process, including consistent improvement of the rule of law and reforms in the field of justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Djuric recalled that earlier this year a new negotiation structure was established and the Operational Team for EU accession process was formed, and addded that this step confirms Serbia's firm commitment to accelerating reforms and further progress towards membership in the European Union.

He also reminded that during the recent visit of President of the European Council Antonio Costa to Belgrade, support for the European perspective of our region was confirmed, as well as that the position that enlargement is a geostrategic necessity for the EU was reiterated.

Speaking about the current situation in Kosovo and Metohija, Djuric said that Belgrade remains committed to continuing the dialogue when the conditions are met and emphasized that the Serb population in the province showed unity and responsibility with the high turnout and participation in the recently held election process.

Djuric said that regional cooperation remains one of Serbia's key foreign policy priorities, with an emphasis on commitment to further improve bilateral relations in the region.

According to him, Serbia strives to develop good neighborly relations that contribute to concrete results and better connection of the region, which ultimately leads to improvement of the quality of life of citizens.

The head of Serbian diplomacy said that Serbia is dedicated to building and improving bilateral relations with its EU partners, based on mutual respect, dialogue and common interests, and that this represents an important segment of its EU path and integration process.

The meeting was also attended by Head of the Mission of Serbia to the European Union and the head of the Operational Team Danijel Apostolovic, the Foreign Ministry announced.
