New and extremely distressing details are emerging after a serious traffic accident that took place at a railway crossing between Odzaci and Lalic, in which a 27-year-old woman and her 3-year-old son lost their lives.

According to the latest unofficial information from the investigation and based on the testimonies of eyewitnesses, the gate at the level crossing was properly lowered at the time of the tragedy, meaning that a train was approaching. However, the woman who died and who was driving the car, decided not to stop.

We have learned that the vehicle was moving at full speed, and there are no visible traces of braking on the road. It is assumed that the driver was attempting to bypassing the lowered gate at high speed before the train arrived, but the incoming passenger train crashed directly into the car, and then dragged it for over a hundred meters along the tracks before it was finally able to come to a stop.

An additionally distressing detail, which has still not been officially confirmed, is that the woman was also pregnant.

Upon arriving at the scene, the doctors, together with the firefighters and rescue teams, could only pronounce her and the child dead, inside the crushed vehicle. In order to reach them, rescuers had to cut through the vehicle.

An on-duty public prosecutor led the investigation at the scene of the tragedy yesterday. The investigation is still ongoing, and the exact circumstances - as well as the motive or reason why the car did not slow down in front of the lowered gate - will be known after all expert examinations and the official police report have been compiled.
