GRIM TOLL ON ROADS IN SERBIA: 15 dead and 355 injured in one week, police make URGENT APPEAL!
Although statistics show a positive trend compared to last year, the deadly toll recorded on the roads throughout Serbia is still alarming.
In September alone, 20 drivers lost their lives, and the main reason remains the same - speeding.
During the previous week, as many as 694 traffic accidents happened on the roads in Serbia, in which 15 people diead, while as many as 355 were injured, the Traffic Police have announced.
However, when the numbers are compared with the same period last year, the situation now is more favorable. There have been fewer deaths and injuries, which indicates a higher level of responsibility on the part of individual traffic participants, but there is no room to relax.
Drivers most at risk: Speeding still kills
Despite the positive trend evident in overall statistics, data from the field sends a dramatic warning: drivers are still the most vulnerable category on the roads.
20 drivers lost their lives this month alone.
Unadjusted speed is still the number one factor behind accidents, and the severity of the consequences.
"Improper and excessive speed directly endangers lives," the police are warning.
Urgent appeal
The Traffic Police are appealing on all drivers not to push their luck while behind the wheel and to strictly follow regulations:
Adjust speed to the weather and road conditions.
Be sure to use a seat belt on all seats.
Do not get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol or psychoactive substances.
Responsible behavior saves lives of drivers and other participants in traffic. The Traffic Police concluded by wishing all citizens safe travel.
