Everything that 22-year old Alen Mustafić from Subotica wanted in life was to continue his studies after he finished the School of Chemical Technology. As life can be cruel, due to development problems (Hyperkinetic disorder and disharmonic development with elements of autism) diagnosed when he was a boy, it was almost impossible for him to continue his education!

However, Alen has never ceased to dream… Whether it was due to his immense courage and perseverance, or something else, destiny obviously decided to play once again with this boy.

And it happened faster than anyone could imagine, and in the best possible way…

On 12 March, this 22-year old boy from Subotica became a scholar of the school he dreamt about – Information Technology School ITS which is a part of the company Comtrade!

According to his parents Zorica Vuković and Adil Mustafić everything happened incredibly fast and it was unreal – like in a fairy-tale.

– Thanks to the initiative of the Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy, Aleksandar Vulin and due to the fact that the company Comtrade and ITS school accepted the initiative and agreed to provide scholarship for Alen, our son can live a life that he dreamt about for years. I want to thank them for that! – said for Telegraf Alen's father Adil excitedly. He and his wife attended, as he put it “most memorable moment in his son's life” – the signing of the agreement on awarding the scholarship in the company Comtrade.

The Minister Aleksandar Vulin, the President of the company Comtrade – Veselin Jevrosimović, and the director of ITS school- Bojan Ristić were present at the ceremony of awarding the scholarship.

On this occasion, Vulin pointed out that such gesture is an extraordinary way to show how to take care of persons with disabilities.

– This is an extraordinary way to show how society takes care of persons with disabilities who are not a burden, but a part of our society. They have special needs and we have to meet these needs – said Vulin pointing out that persons with disabilities deserve the opportunity to go to school, learn and grow, but also to secure themselves a social life and a good living.

Vulin added that this scholarship was not provided from the budget, and that the company Comtrade didn't ask for anything in return, because they “accepted the idea that came from the Ministry immediately”!

The president of Comtrade Veselin Jevrosimović said that the obligation of their company is to support education of the student with disabilities. He would have to work hard in order to become an engineer in a three years’ time and added that this time will be “a big challenge with a lot of hard work, and that Alen will have all possible support”.

Support during his education will be more than needed to Alen, according to his parents.

– If it weren't for Suzana Skenderović the president of “Association for autism” in Subotica where Alen started working recently, perhaps nobody could hear Alen's voice – explains Adil and continues – She mentioned Alen and his wishes to the representatives of the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy at the opening ceremony of a room for sensory integration and “the ball started rolling”… One day people from the Ministry told us that Alen would enrol in ITS school in October… We were stunned. We still are, because everything happened so easily, like in a dream! It is now that the real fight begins! Certainly, it will not be easy to Alen. He will have to adapt to school and vice versa.

Suzana Skenderović adds that it is very important to talk about people with disabilities, because that is “the only way to hear their needs and dreams”.

Finally, Alen Mustafić joined the conversation between people who are closest to him, seeking “little attention”.

I am excited that I will finally be able to study! With this the matters are put right, because my younger sister started her studies before me. Now we are both students! – told us Alen with proud and excitement, leaving Comtrade premises with a promise that he would do his best to meet the expectations of those who made it possible for his dreams to come true.|
