Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Patriarch Irinej has been urgently admitted to the VMA clinic in Belgrade. The condition of the SPC head is now stable and he is recovering successfully.

His Holiness was transferred to the VMA two days ago, and as the daily Blic learned from this medical facility, the patriarch had been feeling unwell in recent days.

"He has a high fever and a general weakness of the organism. The condition is now stable, we hope for a speedy recovery of His Holiness, who will remain in the hospital for a few more days to fully recover," said a source.

The Serbian patriarch is known to have several meetings each day, to regularly serve liturgy (Orthodox service) while meeting all his Church-related obligations.

Blic has been told by the Patriarchate that the weather has been too hot lately, while the patriarch is of an advanced age, and working hard.

His Holiness two days ago he turned 89, and was sent to the VMA from the Patriarchate as a precaution, among other things, precisely because of his age.

Various types of information about the health status of the patriarch have been appeared on social media platforms over the last few hours. Some of these messages have upset believers by claiming that the patriarch was in "bad shape."
