How Sremski Karlovci became one of the municipalities with highest wages

Sremski Karlovci are among the ten cities and municipalities with the highest wages in Vojvodina, the municipality announced.

The average personal income in Sremski Karlovci exceeded 50,800 dinars, which, they say, puts it side by side with Novi Sad, Kovin, Vrsac, Pancevo, Titel and Senta.

"What is particularly pleasing is the fact that these are real sector wages - the wages earned by our local economy," said the Mayor Nenad Milenkovic.

He said the results didn't surprise him, as a responsible policy is being pursued at the state level and is encouraging local leaders to follow the work of the president and the government and to quickly solve problems faced by the citizens and the economy.

"This success is all the greater if we know that the entire Serbian industry had been systematically destroyed for decades, and that Sremski Karlovci was managed without any ideas and goals. That's why the sixth position is no small success. But we have a plan how to be even better," said Milenkovic.

According to him, the goal of Sremski Karlovci is to increase the revenues of the local population through the development of tourism and related activities, over the next four years.

The construction of a tourist dock (on the Danube) will be completed soon, and as part of the Novi Sad European Culture Capital 2021 project. The nucleus of Sremski Karlovci is being worked on, which will increase tourist visits.

Milenkovic also announced the start of the construction of a wholesale Univerexport facility which will employ 40 Karlovci residents and in that way certainly contribute to reducing the number of unemployed persons in the territory of this municipality.
