Wind wreaks havoc in Belgrade, knocks down trees: Here's what to do if you come across such scenes

Due to high temperatures, trees have not yet shed their leaves and fruit, so their canopies are extremely heavy

Due to extremely strong Kosava wind which is in Belgrade blowing at the speed of about 20 kilometers per hour, the operative team for emergency response of the public utility company Zelenilo Beograd has been on duty around the clock. On several occasions they intervened to remove broken branches and trees brought down by the wind.

On Vojvode Putnika Boulevard, a healthy chestnut tree fell down under wind gusts due to the weight of its canopy, hitting a moving vehicle. The company's teams immediately went to the field and removed the tree, which was one of seven emergency interventions.

Two people were in the car when the tree fell on it. They are currently being examined at a health facility. The chestnut tree was a part of the regular maintenance program of this company and the injured citizens will be compensated for damages according to the established procedure.

The tree was completely healthy at the time of the windstorm, a statement added. According to the statement, due to prolonged vegetation thanks to unseasonably high temperatures, trees have not yet shed their leaves and fruit, so their canopies are extremely heavy leading to healthy trees falling under wind gusts.

Any case of a fallen, broken or damaged tree that could endanger safety and cause material damage should be reported to the Information Center of this company on weekdays from 7:30 am until 3:30 pm (phone number 2630-506) and after that time to the on-duty service in Vojvode Misica Boulevard number 85a (phone number 2650-683).

It is also possible to report these cases via the city's Information Center, the on-call inspection service, and the police.
