A Macedonian born on a JAT plane, at an altitude of 8,000 meters, was named after the airline

The JAT airline no longer exists, but the story of a boy born on one of its flights from Yugoslavia to Australia in 1978 will remain one of the most beautiful "high-altitude" memories

Marija Todeva gave birth on February 13, 1978 on a JAT plane; the baby was delivered by crew members. They used scissors disinfected with whiskey to cut the baby's umbilical cord, and the boy was named Jatko - he is probably the only Jatko anywhere in the world.

Jatko's mom was 18 years old and eight months pregnant when she took a flight from Belgrade to Sydney via Singapore. There, her husband Stojan, who had gone to Australia several months earlier in search of a better life, waited for her. She gave birth two hours before landing, when the plane was flying at an altitude of 8,000 meters.

The plane took off with 106 passengers, and landed with 107. Jatko received a lifetime airline ticket but has not used it. Yet.

Happy birthday to Jatko - and you can see the story about the unique circumstances under which he came into this world in the video at the top of the page.
