Two Serbian citizens infected with coronavirus aboard a cruise ship

Two Serbian nationals who are crew members aboard the Diamond Princess have been infected with coronavirus.

The ship that was quarantined in Japan had 3,700 passengers, 14 of whom were Serbians, including 12 crew members. Two passengers returned to Serbia last week on a commercial flight, while the rest of our citizens remained on board.

Foreign Mister Ivica Dacic told Tanjug that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan informed its Serbian counterparts today that two of the remaining 11 Serbian citizens, crew members aboard the Diamond Princess quarantined in Yokohama, Japan, tested positive for coronavirus.

They are S.O. (29) and M.T. (30).

The MFA is working on learningn when they will disembark and at which hospital they will be treated, Dacic said.

"The embassy of Serbia in Japan is in constant touch with them, all our citizens on that ship have the embassy's telephone numbers as well as a cell phone number that they can call 24-7, and they have been told that if they are hospitalized they need to ask to contact the embassy ," Dacic said.

He said the last group of passengers who tested positive for the virus was placed in a newly opened hospital about 300 kilometers away from Tokyo, near Nagoya, that has an internet connection, so it's possible that the two of our people will be sent there, if there is capacity.

Two passengers have returned to Serbia, as well as one crew member.
