The deputy director of the Batut Institute of Public Health Darija Kisic Tepavcevic, said last night that patience would be needed in the coming days and weeks, and that "as soon as we have more people at the Belgrade Fair, in the temporary hospital (for mild cases), than in the clinics, we be certain that we have strengthened" while the virus is weakening.

She told the RTS that, looking at the numbers in the weeks that are characterized by the largest increase in the number of new cases, given the situation in other countries, we are keeping the epidemic under control and, as she stated, on a kind of a "plateau."

"It's about weeks 4, 5 and 6. If someone had told us a month ago that we would be satisfied with a "plateau" of over 200 new case (a day), we wouldn't have believed them. But as the indication for testing increases and the number of those tested increases, we are more likely to detect positive cases," said Tepavcevic Kisic.

According to her, the true parameter of epidemic control is "the percentage of people who have asymptomatic or mild clinical forms, and a reduced number of those who require a ventilator."

"That speaks to a decline in virulence and a rise in our collective immunity," she said.

She added that the number of 145 people currently connected to ventilators is extremely serious and that these are vitally endangered patients.

"Their clinical condition is difficult, but we are fighting for them. Among the patients who were on venitilators those who beat the virus and have started to breathe spontaneously," said Tepavcevic Kisic.
