The curfew could be in effect for May Day (Labor Day in Serbia) and religious feast of Djurdjevdan (May 6), but no final decision has been made so far, epidemiologist Predrag Kon has said.

He told Sputnik that it would be logical to consider curfew as a measure during the upcoming holidays, but noted that he could not independently state with certainty which exact measures would be applied.

Kon pointed out that for now it is only certain that decisions on holiday-time measures will be made in accordance with the epidemiological situation.

He pointed out that the holidays allow forcontacts and transmission of the virus and said that it would be very bad if the current situation were to deteriorate.

Kindergartens to open once state of emergency is lifted

Speaking about when the kindergartens will open and under what conditions, he said that it should happen when the state of emergency is lifted, because that decision was related to a ban on movement and stopping work.

He added that everyone is aware that there are parents who have nowhere else to drop off their child, especially now that it is not appropriate for children to be with their grandparents, who are the most vulnerable part of the population.

The virus will again rear its head

Asked when larger gatherings would be possible, Kon said it was quite difficult to answer that question, adding that he was aware that measures to ban them were not be popular, but noted that they were necessary.

"I personally think that the measures will be made milder and that gatherings will be possible during the summer, but that later in the year we will have to reintroduce them. Of course, depending on the situation. I want to say that it is very likely that the virus will start raising its head again by the end of the year or in the fall, and maybe a little earlier," says Kon.
