A village in Guatemala has been named after Serbia, as a sign of gratitude for the aid delivered to its residents by Serbia's honorary consul in this Latin American country, Marcela Arzu de Losano, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced.

The honorary consul of the Republic of Serbia, as a personal donation, sent aid in the form of basic foodstuffs for about a hundred impoverished households in this village.

Until now, the village did not have a name, and the locals now named it after Serbia as a sign of gratitude.

With this gesture, the Republic of Serbia and Guatemala continue to strengthen friendly ties, which were renewed in March 2019 during the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

During this visit, a street in the center of the capital, Guatemala City, was named after our Nobel laureate Ivo Andric.

During the return visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala Sandra Polanco to Serbia last September a street in Belgrade was named after a Nobel Prize winner from Guatemala, Miguel Angel Asturias.
