Epidemiologist Predrag Kon, a member of the Crisis HQ for combating coronavirus in Serbia, wrote on Facebook that the changing positions about masks are a consequence of the latest research, and pointed out that if everyone wears a mask and keeps their distance - protection against coronavirus is 99 percent.

"The changing positions about masks are a consequence of the latest research, and especially of unequivocal of the differences in the success of suppressing the pandemic where masks are widely used compared to those countries where they are not. The position of the WHO at the beginning of the pandemic was that it made sense only for an infected person to wear a mask, in order to prevent transmission of the infection. Today, it is said that if everyone wears masks and keeps their distance, protection is close to 99 percent. If only one person wears it and others do not, protection for that person is about 30 percent," Dr. Kon posted on Facebook last night, one hour after midnight.

A few hours before this post, Dr. Kon called on Belgraders to wear masks.

"Dear Belgraders, take care of your own and our health. WEAR MASKS! Let's help each other!"

The debate over wearing masks is not subsiding in Serbia either. Last week, after the session of the Crisis HQ masks became obligatory in outdoors for a short time. An hour later, the government said that this was still only a recommendation.

Indoors, masks are mandatory in Serbia.

Serbia is in the third wave of coronavirus, with the worst situation in Belgrade, Kragujevac, Valjevo...
