A 15-year-old body, Aleksandar C., died of a heart attack at around 1:35 pm yesterday at the intersection of Koste Stamenkovica and Janka Veselinovica streets in Nis, as he was running away from a man who, out of the blue, started chasing him with a knife.

Experts explain that fear only contributed to the most probable cause, a heart problem which the teenager alrady had, leading to the fatal outcome.

"Fear probably influenced the lethal outcome, but usually there should be some prior problem, in terms of some, perhaps, heart defect that was complicated by an accelerated heart rate. In fear, the pulse increases and can exceed 200 beats per minute. Then heart contractions are ineffective and the heart muscle does not get enough oxygen. Cardiac arrest occurs and unfortunately, the fatal outcome. Fear in itself can also cause death, but from my experience it has been shown that the cause is always some heart failure," Professor Dr. Miljko Ristic, a well-known Serbian cardiac surgeon, told TV Pink.

The unfortunate boy was walking down Hajduk Stankova Street on the fateful evening with two friends of the same age when they came across the attacker. The man was eating in the street and said something to them. Aleksandar passed by first, and then returned immediately, thinking that the man had addressed him. However, the man pulled out a knife. The three teenagers started to run away, but Aleksandar soon fell down and, unfortunately, passed away.
