Most difficult night in Bezanijska Kosa clinic so far: 120% more examinations than 3 weeks ago

At the moment, there are 300 Covid patients in the KBC Bezanijska Kosa and the hospital's capacities are filled at about 97 percent. The director of that health institution, Dr. Marija Zdravkovic, points out that last night was very difficult, the most difficult so far.

Dr. Marija Zdravkovic told RTS this morning that they examined a huge number of patients during the night - 350.

"That is 120 percent more than we had three weeks ago. A huge number of people who have problems, who are positive and who are coming," said Zdravkovic.

She stressed that they found a place for everyone who needed hospital treatment.

"We had 35 admissions to this institution and we triaged 56 patients to other institutions, because we have an admission-triage clinic like that in the Infectious Diseases Clinic and in the KBC Zemun," the doctor added.

She stated that there have been fewer examinations in the KBC Zemun for now.

"We'll examine everyone. We plead with patients, I know it's hard for them, but they have to have patience, because we are constantly like on a factory conveyor belt. Nobody is taking brakes, we work 24 hours to adequately take care of each patient and do all the necessary tests and make a conclusion and find a place for hospitalization if they are fit for it, or set a date when a check-up is done," said Zdravkovic.

She said that there are currently 12 patients on ventilators at the Bezanijska Kosa hospital.

"They are fighting for their lives, that is, we are fighting for their lives together with them, and at this moment we have 18 patients who are on special types of ventilation," said the doctor.

An appeal on citizens to see their doctor in time

She stressed that probably due to a large number of infected people, a huge number of complicated bronchopneumonias is noticeable.

"These are bilateral pneumonias that affect the whole of both lungs. We appeal once again on patients to come in time, not to wait, because if they report when 50 percent of the lungs is affected very quickly, in three to four days, they go into huge so-called scores where the lungs are 90 percent covered and when their lives are endangered and one step closer to the ventilator," Zdravkovic explained.

When it comes to the average age of patients whose condition is complicated and where rapid transitions from stable to unstable are frequent, Zdravkovic said that they are between 55 and 65 years old.

"What we always tell patients - we encourage them. It's very important to tell them to try to breathe as much as possible, because if they relax and slow down that breathing force, tests deteriorate terribly and they go on the ventilator," said Zdravkovic.

Asked where Covid positive patients most often make mistakes, Zdravkovic said that they have a big problem when family members bring someone for an examination without a mask.

"Then the one who comes to be examined in the meantime infects another member of the family. We had a special problem yesterday with a patient who completely recklessly handed his infected clothes through the window to his children who are negative. Of course, the clothes of a patient in a hospital is highly infectious and cannot be spread and brought home just like that, it must be done with special care, and it's best to do it in specialized services," concluded Zdravkovic.
