The number of people infected and dead from coronavirus in Serbia by noon today is higher than yesterday, said Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, who, together with Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar attended the signing of a contract with the selected contractor to reconstruct the Clinical Center Vojvodina (KCV) and build new facilities there.

"The situation is serious, we again appeal on citizens respect the prescribed measures, to help the healthcare workers. The whole country is in a difficult situation. I call on everyone to understand this fight as a fight of each individual for the whole society," said the prime minister.

When it comes to the healthcare system, she said that today's signing of the contract is only a part of a larger investment cycle and that more work is yet to be done on that.

Thanks to all these investments, Serbia is able to take care of all patients today, said Brnabic and stressed that a large number of hospitals have switched to the Covid system, which would not have been possible if a lot of invested did not happen before.

"I expect that we will be able to open the renovated Infectious Diseases Clinic in April, the reconstruction of which we are working on. The final works on two special hospitals are underway, in Batajnica and in Krusevac, which are intended exclusively for Covid patients," the prime minister added.

Surgical block with 16 operating rooms, intensive and semi-intensive care

The works in KCV include reconstruction and extension of lamellas B and C of the Emergency Diagnostic Center with an area of more than 33,000 square meters, the extension of the heating connection with the existing clinics within KCV, as well as of technical blocks with roads and parking lots.

The lamellas B and C will include a surgical block with 16 operating rooms, intensive and semi-intensive care units and a hospital with a total of 348 beds.

The main project for that clinical center was completed in 2015, while the building permit was obtained in October 2016.

The consortium of GH Holding from Ljubljana and Delta Inzenjering from Belgrade have been chosen as the contractor.

The contractor has a period of 30 days to start preparatory works, while the deadline for the completion of works is 29 months from the signing of the contract between the investor and the contractor.

The signing of the contract was also attended by the Vojvodina provincial health secretary, Zoran Gojkovic, and KCV director, Edita Stokic.
