Only 15 days left to raise 300,000 euros for little Anika: Plane is ready, but money is missing

There is little time left to raise the money for the treatment of 2-year-old Anika Manic in time for her to travel abroad for treatment. Anika suffers from spinal muscular atrophy type 1 and her only hope is to receive a medicine that costs two million euros.

The state announced that Anika will go to Budapest for treatment on a plane of the Government of Serbia, but also that starting next year, Serbia will introduce a screening program for newborns for early detection of this serious and rare disease.

According to Anika's mother, Ivanka Pavlovic Manic, the goal is very close.

"According to the latest 'Budi Human' report we are at about 15 percent from the goal, which means that it is necessary to collect another 300,000 euros for Anika's therapy. The last time we were on RTS, about 80,000 texts were sent in 24 hours, and if that happened again, we would end up almost raising the funds. I would like to take this opportunity to address citizens who have been with us all this time to send an SMS so that we can send Anika to therapy soon," Anika's mother appealed via RTS.

The deadline is December 15

It is necessary to raise funds by December 15, because after that it takes time to order gene therapy and deliver it to a hospital from the US, and Anika should be in Budapest in January when the necessary tests will be performed, receiving her therapy after a couple of weeks.

"The therapy is given up to a certain body weight limit, of 13.5 kilograms, and Anika is very close to that," her mother explains.

"Anika constantly has a problem breathing and swallowing. In that sense, her condition is unchanged, but she is in a good condition to receive that gene therapy, which is the most important thing at the moment," said Anika's mother.
