A warning hardly anyone sees at the most popular Instagram spot in Serbia: A beast lives here

The Banjska Stena lookout on Mt. Tara has become an absolute hit on Instagram since last summer. Everyone who wanted to take unforgettable photos near the canyon of the Drina River flocked to this destination, tirelessly taking selfies.

But, few of them paid attention to a warning that is displayed on a board, and which should make many people - if nothing else - at least more careful on their way to Banjska Stena.

Namely, there is risk of a "close encounter" with a brown bear, one of the largest predators in the world, in the area of ​​the Tara National Park!

"In ​​Serbia, the largest population of brown bears is found in the area of ​​the Tara National Park and it amounts to about 40. Tara is the only refuge for bears in western Serbia, primarily because of its configuration, vegetation, abundance of inaccessible and sheltered places for wintering, as well as abundance of various and easily accessible food," the warning reads.

Tara National Park representatives are telling visitors that the chance of coming across one of the bears is not high, but they also give advice on how to act if that unwanted encounter does occur.

"In case of an encounter, stop and do not make any sudden moves, nor make any sound signals. Stay calm and in place," the Tara National Park advises.

The board that contains the warning also features photographs of a bear's front and back paw prints, so that visitors to this part of Serbia can recognize them and realize that one of these predators is nearby.

Therefore, if you intend to go to the most beautiful lookout in Serbia, do not ignore this warning. No doubt you will enjoy beautiful nature as you walk or jog toward Banjska Stena, but keep your eyes open. Don't forget the old saying - when you see a bear, play dead!
