Twelve biggest clubs in Europe have decided to, in a way, break away from UEFA and establish their own competition, the European Super League, which will put an end to the Champions League in the format we know today.

There is no doubt that this decision made by the most powerful clubs in Europe will radically change football, and it will also have an impact on Serbian football, which in recent years was basing its plans on participation in European competitions.

Red Star Director General Zvezdan Terzic also reacted to the founding of the European Super League, stressing that the club will not take a position yet, because information is still being gathered, and emphasized that they are in contact with people from UEFA and ECA (European Club Association), and that decisions to be made during the UEFA Congress are also awaited.

"We are in touch with people from UEFA and the European Club Association, we are monitoring the situation. We will wait to see if this decision is applicable at all considering that football associations of England, France, Germany, Spain and Italy are against the formation of the Super League.

There are a lot of questions here now. We will wait for the final position of UEFA on this issue, which also opposes the formation of the Super League. The UEFA Congress starts today, we will see what decisions will be made on this issue and what are UEFA's alternative solutions. Only after that, as a club, can we say something more concrete," Terzic stressed, pointing out that he is against the establishment of the Super League.

"But generally speaking, I am against the establishment of the European Super League, and as a club we will fight against that because that league is designed to make rich clubs even richer, and everyone else even poorer. The already too wide existing gap between the clubs is getting wider. The sport loses its essence, it loses fair play. Red Star is a former European champion and has already paid a big price during the last 25 years because of the existing financial differences (between clubs)."

Terzic noted that this will be a catastrophe for all of European football and added what the consequences will be:

- A system that does not give everyone a chance

- Americanization of the sport

- The European model of the sport is disrupted

- The football pyramid is disrupted

- 12 clubs on one side against hundreds of thousands of others

- No solidarity mechanism towards other clubs and leagues...
