Palestinian Ambassador to Serbia Mohammed Nabhan confirmed that this country had launched an initiative in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to freeze membership of the so-called Kosovo due to it opening a representative office in Jerusalem.

If the proposal is accepted, it could mean closing representative offices in Pristina, freezing contacts or withdrawing the recognition of so-called Kosovo by members of that organization.

The ambassador said that Pristina's decision to open a representative office in Jerusalem has been condemned by all member countries of the Arab League and the OIC, but that concrete steps should be taken so that the government in Pristina learns how to behave on the international scene.

"Termination of cooperation, i.e. freezing of cooperation could mean closing embassies if they have them in Pristina or if they have some agreements, putting them on ice. That means a lot," Nabhan said.

Asked if that could mean withdrawing the recognition of so-called Kosovo as independent, the ambassador replied in the affirmative and said that this is also possible.

"If (so-called) Kosovo insists on what it is doing, that will certainly follow. That is the second step," said the ambassador.

Nabhan recalled that although so-called Kosovo is not a full member of the OIC, Palestine has asked all member states, 58 of them, not to open representative offices in Jerusalem, since UN Security Council Resolution 478 forbids states from moving embassies or such offices to Jerusalem.
