Members of the Ministry of Interior, the Service for the Fight against Organized Crime, in coordination with the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime, and in cooperation with the Hungarian and Romanian police, arrested members of an organized crime group on suspicion that they were engaged in illegal border crossing and human trafficking.

The police arrested D.P. (35), M.G. (36) and N.G. (21) in Zrenjanin, while the criminal complaint also includes L.G. (35), who is currently in hospital.

It is suspected that D.P. and M.G. led this criminal group that organized illegal crossing of the Serbian-Hungarian and Serbian-Romanian state borders, transferring at least 45 irregular migrants in this way, with the aim of further illegal transfer to European Union countries.

They are charged with taking between 80 to 500 euros per irregular migrant in exchange for their services.

It is also suspected that they bought and then transported passenger and cargo motor vehicles, with foreign license plates, to several locations in the territory of Serbia, and then took them to Hungary and Romania to be used for migrant smuggling.

Previously, three citizens of Serbia, members of this organized criminal group, got arrested in Hungary and Romania. They were hired as drivers of irregular migrants through the territories of these countries.

During the search of an apartment and other premises, one passenger vehicle, several mobile phones and SIM cards and 50,000 dinars were found and temporarily seized from the suspects.

The suspects have been detained for up to 48 hours, and will then be brought before the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime in Belgrade along with the criminal complaint.
