The Ministry of Mining and Energy has issued a decision approving construction of mining facilities and mining works for the copper and gold mine Cukaru Peki, while the opening of the mine is planned by the end of the year.

The mining project envisages an annual production of 3.3 million tons of copper and gold ore, and exploitation deposits amount to 36.99 million tons of ore, the ministry announced.

The total value of investments in the Cukaru Peki project is 474 million euros.

With the opening of this mine, which is planned in the last quarter of 2021, Serbia will become the second largest copper producer in Europe, after Poland, while its share in the production of this ore will increase from the current five to 18 percent.
