The swimming season at many pools and rivers has started throughout Serbia, but few people know that Dragacevo locals have their own "sea" - as they call Lake Goli Kamen, which is tucked away in a forest oasis between the villages of Kotraza and Vuckovica, only 17 kilometers from the center of Guca.

This artificial lake was created when a dam was built in 1990 and was intended primarily for water supply. However, the lake never served that purpose, so now it is an untouched natural oasis between Kotraza and Vuckovica.

"As soon as the summer days start, the locals from surrounding villages gather here. It's a true natural oasis, to enjoy swimming, but also fishing, because this water is extremely rich in numerous fish, so you can catch carp, catfish, babushka, crucian carp," a resident of Vuckovica told RINA.

However, the only shadow cast on this natural oasis are stories that have been circulating for a long time, related to the creation of Lake Goli Kamen. It has long been speculated that during the excavation at the bottom of the lake, dangerous nuclear waste was dumped there, which, as they said, arrived from Slovenia. Some believed it and won't even go to the shore, while other locals enjoy the clean water and pristine nature.

"There is no room for any speculation when it comes to this lake," the president of the municipality of Lucani, Milivoje Dolovic, told RINA.

"It was built in order to solve the long-standing problem that the locals have with water supply, but due to extremely dry years, the level dropped, so water from this accumulation cannot be used for that purpose, but has exclusively a tourist potential. The road infrastructure has also been built in order for visitors to reach this location more easily."
