The City of Belgrade, JKP (public company) Belgrade Metro and Train and the French company Egis Rail have signed a contract to produce the design of the second line of the Belgrade Metro, for which funds have been provided by the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Deputy Belgrade Mayor Goran Vesic has told Studio B.

He pointed out that the French company Egis, according to this contract, will prepare technical documentation, the feasibility study and the preliminary design with the environmental impact assessment study for the second Metro line from Bezanija to Mirijevo station.

"A joint depot for lines 2 and 3 is planned on Bezanijska Kosa. Designing the depot is an integral part of this contract. The deadline for the completion of the contract is 25 months, so that construction of the second line can start in 2023 and be completed in 2030. The beginning of the construction of the first line of the Belgrade Metro is planned for November this year, and the end for 2028. The total length of the second line is 21 kilometers and includes a total of 23 Metro stations," said the deputy mayor.

Vesic recalled that the Republic of Serbia, thanks to President Vucic, secured 4.6 billion euros to build the first two lines of the Belgrade Metro.

"This year, exactly 51 years since the subway was promised for the first time, we are starting construction. President Vucic and we who are his associates, above all Minister Mali and I, who are in charge of building it, belong to a generation of politicians who are completing what has been promised to Belgrade for decades. We will build the subway, complete the bypass around Belgrade, build three factories for wastewater treatment, expand the tram network and the BG train system." said Vesic.
