Our heroes save 2 villages in Greece, fly for over 150 hours in 13 days: Commander Nedic speaks

Serbia and Switzerland are the only countries that have sent three helicopters to Greece each

The commander of the Helicopter Unit of the Serbian Ministry of the Interior (MUP), Nenad Nedic, who is taking part in putting out wildfires on the Greek island of Evia along with his crew, said on Wednesday that yesterday alone this unit dumped 35 tons of water during 30 flights over the northwestern part of the island, on two villages endangered by fires which were localized and brought under control by the end of the day.

Nedic stressed that Serbia is one of only a handful of countries that have sent aircraft to Greece and specified that, along with Switzerland, which sent three, Serbia also has three helicopters deployed to help the Greek people - two Bell 212s and an H-145, with 14 crew, pilots and mechanics.

"That speaks about the capacities that our Ministry of Internal Affairs has at its disposal," said Nedic.

According to him, the crew and their helicopters are based in the military facility Tanagra, which is located 20 minutes by air from the northern part of the island, the area where Serbian helicopters are being used.

Members of the Helicopter Unit, who are making superhuman efforts above Evia together with their Greek colleagues in fighting the fires that have engulfed this island, were visited today by Serbian Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandar Vulin.

He stressed that he was proud of the members of this unit who, after doing their utmost in helping extinguish wildfires in Serbia and North Macedonia, tirelessly continue to work to help the brotherly Greek people.

After puting out fires in Serbia and North Macedonia, members of the MUP Helicopter Unit were sent to Greece on the order of President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic.

As we have learned, in the 13 days that the unit has been deployed in Serbia, the Serb Republic, North Macedonia and now in Greece, it had more than 150 hours in the air, which is a large amount.
