One of the most important opera artists of our era, Placido Domingo, will perform in the capital on September 8 seven years after since his last concert in Belgrade. Domingo will perform with the Symphony Orchestra of the Serbian Radio and Television (RTS) at the Tasmajdan Stadium.

Thus, the famous Spanish tenor will be one of the few foreign musicians to visit Belgrade during the pandemic, and at the beginning of July, the opera diva from Latvia Elina Garanca gave a concert at the same venue, a reduced version of the opera "Carmen."

The repertoire at the closing of the BELEF festival will consist of arias and duets from the rich opuses of Verdi's, Puccini's and Mascagni's operas, which Placido Domingo will perform together with sopranos Anna Pirozzi from Italy and Maria Jelic from Serbia, who recently sang together precisely with the aforementioned Elina Garanca.

RTS has the exclusive right to record the all-evening music spectacle, while the RTS Symphony Orchestra will play under the baton of Bulgarian conductor Dian Chobanov, the general music director of the State Opera in Plovdiv, who in the past worked as a conductor in Zagreb's HNK and as the chief guest conductor in the National Theater in Belgrade, as well as in Novi Sad.

Domingo's career began with his opera debut in 1957 and so far he has sang in more than 150 different opera roles, and gained fame with a series of concerts known as "The Three Tenors," together with Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras, who were also dear guests of Belgrade.

Domingo is the winner of the world's greatest awards, Grammy awards, honorary doctorates and decorations in many countries, and represents an important figure in the muscial history.

In addition to his opera career, Domingo is distinguished as a conductor and art director. He founded the opera competition "Operalia" in 1993, which helps him launch careers of his younger colleagues.

As announced by the BELEF directorate, this will be the cultural event of the year as the center of global opera programs, and will also marks the end of this year's festival.
