This tourist season, electric car chargers on Corridor 10 were working full steam. Free charging is attractive to foreigners, says the Public Company Roads of Serbia (Putevi Srbije). A new invitation has been issued to fit the complete route of the corridor with chargers, as even more electric cars are expected next year, that should not have to wait at charging stations.

About 4,000 electric and hybrid vehicles are currently is use in our country, according to the Ministry of Environmental Protection. Although vehicles powered in this way have been on the market for a long time, it is expected that their production and use is yet to see true expansion.

Roads of Serbia were the first to install chargers on corridor highways. Jelena Puzovic, the head of the compamny's toll collection, has told RTS that eight electric chargers have been installed so far, three of which are ultra-fast with a capacity of more than 175 kilowatts.

They have been placed at the toll station Belgrade and at the toll station Nis, one in the direction of Nis, and the other in the direction of Belgrade.

"The other five were installed at toll stations Subotica, Sid, Dimitrovgrad, Presevo and the rest at the stop at Boljkovac, which is located on the section of the Belgrade-Cacak highway near the toll station Ljig," says Puzovic.

Electric cars can also be recharged at some gas stations, but in some places this is a paid services, while in others it's free. The goal of Roads of Serbia is to expand the network of free chargers.

"Going forward, we plan to install ten more chargers along the First A Category roads," said Puzovic.

There are charging stations in Croatia, Slovenia and other countries, but for now drivers have to pay for electricity or spend a certain amount on beverages and food at a gas station. Some car manufacturers install chargers in service stations and charging there is free.
