Cafes and restaurants that have regular guests and are considered more popular, will be among the first to shorten their opening hours and close at 8 pm, Georgi Genov, director of the Business Association of Hoteliers and Restaurateurs of Serbia has told Telegraf Biznis.

This will be their response to the new measure of the Crisis HQ, which decided that Covid passes will from this evening be required starting at 8 pm in hospitality establishments, instead of 10 pm as has been the case so far.

And it is obvious that what Genov spoke about is happening in practice. One cafe in Arilje refuses to ask its guests for Covid passes, because, as they say, "everyone is equal and everyone is welcome."

In their statement, they wrote among other things, "Normal work and freedom of choice without discrimination, or complete shutdown," and, "The cafe will also not work if the inspection closes us because of non-compliance with the measures."

According to the decision of the Crisis HQ made on Thursday, Covid passes will be mandatory from 8 pm in hospitality establishments, casinos and betting parlors.

Until now, Covid passes have been mandatory from 10 pm.

It is important for the hospitality industry that they will be able to work without restrictions, and Covid passes will be required from 8 pm until closing time, the HQ said.

"Those who have regular guests will rather close early than ask their guests to show the Covid pass. We do not agree with this decision of the Crisis HQ. The wait staff is burdened with a difficult and impossible job and we are losing more and more of them, because no one wants to do that. They have to ask people for personal data, not to mention that many patrons show other people's certificates to waiters, and they cannot deal with proving whether that data is true or not," Genov told our portal earlier.

As he stressed, the guests are not afraid of sanctions, because even if they enter without a pass or it is proven that they had shown other people's data, they pay a fine of 5,000 dinars, while the owner of the establishment would have to pay 300,000 dinars.
