Thanks to the victory of Russia's Aslan Karatsev and Andrei Rublev in the doubles against Spain's Marcel Granollers and Feliciano Lopez, Serbia's Davis Cup team has progressed to the quarterfinals of this prestigious competition as one of the two best second-placed sides in the group stage.

After this outcome, our country found out about the path towards the title. Our tennis players will be on the court again on Wednesday, December 1, when they will face the Kazakhs in Madrid.

Aleksandr Bublik, Aleksandr Nedovyesov, Mikhail Kukushkin, Dmitry Popko and Andreyi Golubev play for this national team. Judging exclusively by the ATP rankings, our guys are huge favorites - Bulbik is best ranked at 36, Popko is only 178th, Kukushkin is three places behind, Nedovyesov is 534th, and Golubev 937th.

The clash against the Kazakhs is scheduled for to start at 4 pm on Wednesday, just as was the case with the previous two ties in the group phase of the competition. If they progress to the semifinals, which we all hope for, the Serbian team will play against the winner of the Croatia v. Italy tie, so we could potentially have an interesting clash with our neighbors to the west, should they eliminate the Italians.

It seems that we can be more than satisfied, since the Russians are on the other end of the draw. They will play against the Swedes in the quarterfinals, while the remaining pairing of this phase of the competition is UK v. Germany.

Serbia will today learn who the opponent in the possible semifinals will be, since Italy and Croatia are playing in Turin, while the clash between the UK and Germany is scheduled for tomorrow in Innsbruck. Serbia and Kazakhstan will be on the court in Madrid on Wednesday, while Russia will play against Sweden on Thursday, also in the Spanish capital.

The semifinals will be played on December 3 and 4, while the final is scheduled for Sunday, December 5.
