When I fall asleep, I hear children screaming: Our citizen describes Bulgaria burning bus accident

Lulzim Sulejmani, a Serbian citizen who was recently injured in a serious traffic accident in Bulgaria in which at least 46 people lost their lives, and who was transferred to the Vranje Healthcare Center two days ago, says he cannot sleep because when he falls asleep, he hears children screaming, people shout and choking from the smoke.

The director of the Healthcare Center in Vranje, Dr. Sasa Djordjevic, said that the patient is in the surgery ward in the new surgical block.

"Lulzim Sulejmani is in good general condition, under medical supervision. He is expected to be discharged for further recovery and home treatment," said Dr. Djordjevic.

Sulejmani, who is from Presevo, recalled the terrible moment when the bus of a carrier from North Macedonia in which he was traveling from Istanbul with his fiancée caught on fire.

"I can't sleep, because when I fall asleep, I hear children screaming, people shouting and choking from the smoke," says Sulejmani and recalls how he took a hammer and broke a window, fell through it to the ground outside, and started calling out to his fiancée.

She soon jumped out of the broken window and fell next to him, injuring her knee, and then five more passengers jumped out. The fire broke out and spread very quickly.

"The bus hit the (highway) barrier, a crash was heard and the fire started immediately, the smoke spread very quickly," Lulzim told Kurir.

He thanked the medical staff of the Healthcare Center Vranje, where he said all his needs are being taken care of. He also expressed gratitude to Ambassador Zeljko Jovic. According to Lulzim, the ambassador visited him twice and is "a very good man."
