Resava Cave is 80 million years old: It's recognizable for its "Statue of mother with child"

One of the most beautiful and longest caves in Serbia - Resava (Resavska) Cave is located 20 kilometers from Despotovac, in a limestone hill called Babina Glava.

The age of this cave is estimated at 80 million years, which makes it one of the oldest in this area.

It was discovered in the 1960s when a local shepherd showed some mountaineers from Svilajnac this natural treasure in Eastern Serbia.

The Resava Cave is 4.5 kilometers long, while about 800 meters are accessible to visitors. Although it seems that the part that tourists can visit is not particularly long, it is also very attractive thanks to the amazing cave decorations.

The decorations are white, yellow and red, which is due to the significant presence of iron oxide that is dominant in the "Resava beauty" as this cave is also known in Serbia.

The lowest point that visitors can reach is at 405 meters above sea level. In the upper gallery there are four halls - the Hall of Fused Pillars, the Hall of Beehives, the Lobby of History and the Crystal Hall.

Although each piece of the cave is beautiful in its own right, the Resava Cave is recognizable by "the statue of a mother with a child" and two crystal-white "statues" that were named "grandma" and "grandpa." There are also numerous tufa "bathtubs" - "Aphrodite," "Mosque," "The Leaning Tower of Pisa," "Elephant's Foot," "The Hanging Sheep"...

Resava Cave enjoys the status of a protected natural monument.
